These are terrible reasons. The number one and in my eyes, only reason to not have this as your wedding camera is that it only has one memory card slot. Also, focusing and recomposing is going to be 10X faster than moving focus points on any camera.
2:13 you liar! Battery is terrible for a wedding. Since the first A7 they still have not made one that can shoot over 700 shots on one charge! Sony trying to be Apple or something and milk it!
Hey Boy, study this camera and the settings properly, and than come back with a video. For now, you just tell, that you have no idea about this camera and the capabilities of this piece of technicque.
I completely and aggressively disagree. How can you say this 42megapixel camera is better than the 12megapixel version? I think you titled your video incorrectly. It should be called what makes the R7 good for Wedding PHOTOGRAHY. Maybe you have photography and videography mixed up.
First off, this camera smokes the S in stills for PHOTOGRAPHY. For VIDEOGRAPHY, with proper understanding of its limitations and work-arounds, it is far better for vanilla shots with a steadicam or motorized gimbal. Also, using it with say a 35mm and decent lighting, you get phenomenal shots with its autofocus speed and accuracy; meaning, you're less likely to lost the subject while filming which makes it superior to the S. Every video proves that. The only thing that really makes a difference where the S will outperform is in low light and slow motion…that's essentially it. If that's your thing…that is filming slow motion in darkness, then get an S but to say this camera is NOT recommended for Wedding PHOTOGRAPHY is utterly ABSURD. So you say you stand by your review. I'm wondering what other things you tell people so confidently that you've been called out on. Bad review.
Thank you for your post. The sony cameras are nice, BUT take a lot of getting use to operate the menu quickly and intuitively. All the sony DSLR's we carry have insanely difficult menus to use. Once you have mastered the menu and features, the camera preforms rather nicely. I now use it often since I can shoot stills and record 4k video. The fact that it has an EVF in the eyepiece is great and makes it better for video than a Canon or Nikon where I have to monitor video from the LCD screen. Be careful when you change lenses as Sony mirrorless DSLR's are dust magnets and the sensor always needs to be monitored. I think any high end camera shoot a wedding, it just boils down to how you work and what you like.
Even entry level camera's are ready for weddings and hey its a7rII its up to the user to maximize the potential from it.. There is no ready nor perfect camera only ready/perfect photographer
OK, bout sick of "issues" crap. What would most of you complainers do if you had used medium format film cameras? There were no focus points and NO ultra fast lenses. Spoiled new breed that has everything done for them by the camera. Weddings aren't a track meet. You can take a little time and you don't have to capture every second in time. There isn't ONE person watching this who isn't aware of the battery issue. If you are aware of all these issues, WHY would you even take this camera to a wedding? If a DSLR is your preferred tool, then take it. No need to criticize this camera for what it doesn't do. It's like reading reviews that criticize a prime for not zooming (yes I have read those).
so , at this time ,almost the second half of 2017 ,what camera you'd recommend me to buy ? i still think to a nikon d810 , coz d750 had way to many functionality problems(flaire , shutter)
This vid is a year old and MANY wedding photographers have switched. The only issue is dual card slots. To me it is funny that the A7rii is superior to MANY cameras that people actually shoot weddings with. These comparisons are usually vs something like a D4 or D5. Its not even the camera it is attempting to compete with. Its superior to 5Dmkii which was the ideal wedding camera, until the 5DMkiii. So many people switched from the 5Dmkiii and dont regret it. Its just odd that the A7Rii seems to be the camera of choice and yet it is never quite good enough. Now that you are shooting with Olympus I guess it shows that not enough doesnt matter. I guess that is the nature of Youtube reviews.
The first issue you mentioned is kind of a non-issue for me. They only time I ever review photos is when I'm testing the camera to make sure I didn't muck up my settings. There's plenty of time to review the photos on the computer later so long as you trust your camera.
Hi Toby, I work as a 2nd photographer at a lot of Bar mitzvahs. I've yet to see anyone use the Sony A7Rii for this type of event photography. What are your thoughts on using the A7Rii for it?
Its about time you address these things. DarrenMiles Photo in Florida gets into some details in focus hunting, glitch lock up and , yes, the time to preview is a killer. In those regards, and NOT JUST wedding, but if you are a shootter that is often doing instant moment captures of people, and you only have a small window of opportunity you wont be getting again… you just cant trust it. I don't care how cool and hipster Jason Lanier thinks his hat is. (though he is a setup and walk around shooter, and not a capture authentic instant emotion type from what I see. It suites him, and it suites me for 50% of the time. I knew it going in. So I thought it might replace my other gear…NOT!
Well this addresses my post on the rave review 🙂 You do a generally good job for the intro audience. Keep it up for them!
ok but for try Gmaster LEnses!!! you're right about focus yes, i use canons for Weddings, and sony A7series for video, portrait, travels and ladscapes ! 😀
hey mate, right now I have canon 7D with several good lenses, and I'm thinking to upgrade to a full frame body, but kinda in a tight budget so I was thinking to change to Sony a7ii or canon 6D, which one do you think better..? cheers!!
The AF is one of the best features on this camera, and the fact that you have focus peaking? There should be no complaints about centering focus or moving it somewhere. Some of these reviews were off.. Tbh
Use your settings! Enable double click on the control wheel button to change the focus point. Easy and fast. Set the AE button for eye focus. Use face recognition for the bride and bridegroom. I use 2 MFT cameras (not for the small size, but for other advantages. I love from this system) and a Sony A7r or A7rII. It's a perfect combination. IQ is on a level we only could dream of back in the analog days. We needed sometimes 5 cameras only to have different films for indoor, outdoor, fast (high ISO), sharp (low ISO) and B&W. Today with 2 cameras and a couple of lenses you can do anything you want.BTW, changing a 40gr battery after your first set of 300 photo's takes less time than going for a leek, but I think with a little practice you can combine both when you are in a hurry. One thing is true, Sony and Zeiss lenses are more expensive than what Canon or Nikon are offering + there is not a lot to choose from. Or you go cheap and that is cheap in every way, or you pay premium and that is very (to) expensive. That is IMHO the real weak point of Sony mirrorless. But there is a turn around for this… combine the strengths of Sony with the strengths that MTF offers (skip A6000 or A6300, they are very good camera's but are not really going to help you to cover what you need for a wedding). The AFS of MTF is faster than DSLR (it really is) and AFS is what I use for a wedding (not AFC).
Nice as always, you still forgot to mention focus peaking which is awesome and please mention they need to put usb 3.0 for tethered shooters and the option to shoot in lower megapixel like the Canon 5Ds does when you do not need 48 megapixels, and option to shoot 20 or 30 megapixels would be awesome!!!
are you fucking high, mate? why is there an astronomic amount of 40 year old photographers uploading videos and articles about the a7r II being "not up to standard for certain things" or "over rated" that have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. spend more time on practicing with the camera rather than making videos about it when you're obviously still at basic level. a combination of 5-axis image stabilization and a back illuminated sensor means you can shoot at 1/6 hand held with 1500 ISO and get barely any quality loss, nevermind 1/200 and 1000 ISO which is basically 0 quality loss and perfect for wedding, can even be shooting indoors without flash – not to mention a mild fill flash which would make it even more powerful. and you're still having AF problems this far into the alpha series? what on earth is your problem? it focuses perfectly in virtually any wedding situation, the only problems it has are incredibly low light which no weddings are set unless it's a wedding in the 8th circle of hell or something. use CAF, hybrid and eye focus – all work perfectly. SD cards nor batteries aren't a problem, have 2x 64gb if you're really sure you need it, have 4-5 batteries as you can get 3 of them for like £10 on ebay, switching them over shouldn't take you more than a couple of seconds if you have them on hand in a pocket. it's probably the best camera for wedding photography out there, the only one i would consider to use over it for wedding is the a7s II cause it has the same IBIS and a slightly better low light performance but the difference is so small you may as well just have the extra pixels on the 7rII in case of any big crops/prints. there's not even point using the nikon DF over it because the ISO performance is basically the same and it lacks the 7rII's insane IBIS. the 7rII is probably the only idiot-friendly camera where you can walk about with its new ISO minimum shutter options pressing one single button being the auto eye AF on aperture priority and still produce amazing results even if you don't know what you're doing. it's a tremendous thing, i've used it and wish i could afford it. this video is garbage.
lol how much the canon pay you for this ? just guys gey ovwer the fucking batterys buy 3 exstra ok ore grip ore battery external charger ! where its the the problem really ?
I don't understand you can hit one button to change focus mode???? Quicker than my 5D Mkiii ….. You can switch between the mode so quick its a positive for me ???????? You should have spotted this and you can switch to manual or use focus recompose as most people do anyway. Even a form of back finger focus…. its all much quicker to do this than my Canon where I just stuck to one way…….The reason I labour this point is you mentioned this is essential for pro camera….. can I suggest you investigate the possibilities of the camera before suggesting so. Its just your opinion I know and i accept that. You are right about the file size and its a good point that sony need to address, especially the buffering. Most wedding togs I know don't really shoot at 1.2 or 1.4 as its very difficult to get high percentage of keepers due to extreme lack depth of field. Batis are 85mm 1.8 & 25mm F2… When i shot with Canon L series 50mm 1.2 and 85mm 1.2 at weddings I always stopped down a tiny bit to hit that sweat spot and get at least two eyes in focus. It was very difficult to shot wide open and in fact not as sharp. Great lens but….. put it this way I will not be buying the sony f1.4 85mm as again its to shallow and 1.8 is fine. Love the way you do your reviews and videos by the way as you get to the quickly. Cheers and keep em coming
my right ear enjoyed the second half
I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS VIDEO EXIST ESPECIALLY FOR A7rii… I THINK YOURE THE ONE WHOS NOT READY FOR A7rii
Sony fanboys are onto you now.
just i buy this camera and i shoot wedding is good so i dont know about andre photography what they thing
you are stupid
Jeeeez try manual focus fgs a wedding is not exactly a fast paced event is. Try f1
These are terrible reasons. The number one and in my eyes, only reason to not have this as your wedding camera is that it only has one memory card slot. Also, focusing and recomposing is going to be 10X faster than moving focus points on any camera.
The new a7r III one is ready for wedding?
well what about the sony A7R3
The autofocus point in the Sony is really a issue. You can´t trust as in a Canon/Nikon
2:13 you liar! Battery is terrible for a wedding. Since the first A7 they still have not made one that can shoot over 700 shots on one charge! Sony trying to be Apple or something and milk it!
If it's that's bad I'll take it off your hands lol

You vs Sony world ummmm, who to believe.
Even entry level camera's are ready for weddings and hey its a7rII its up to the user to maximize the potential from it.. There is no ready nor perfect camera only ready/perfect photographer
Yo man,
Sony is doing alright,
compared to "Almost Bankrupt" Nikon,
nah, thats what I call a Disaster….

Just asking myself how those Leica shooters with manual lenses get by shooting weddings.. Hm. Skills?
so , at this time ,almost the second half of 2017 ,what camera you'd recommend me to buy ? i still think to a nikon d810 , coz d750 had way to many functionality problems(flaire , shutter)
You forgot only one sd card slot. No backup? That's terrible in a wedding situation.

i plan on shooting weddings with the a7R II
toby you cannot criticise the file sizes…. If you have a problem with it, you can soot jpg downgrade the quality

Only one ( 1 ) slot, not acceptable.
What would you recommend on a good quality camera (don't care for video) but amazing photo quality for around 1k
Not Recommended for Wedding Photography… And most other professional usages!
Couldn't agree more with you, even though I don't do weddings.
hey mate, right now I have canon 7D with several good lenses, and I'm thinking to upgrade to a full frame body, but kinda in a tight budget so I was thinking to change to Sony a7ii or canon 6D, which one do you think better..? cheers!!

I want your shirt

i love your overexposed skin…
buy a faster card 150mbs and the camera doesnt lock up. also fast lenses arrive this month. now the camera is pretty much perfect
2.5k$ camera and the buffer locks up? I could spend $400 to get that performance. modular system with expanded battery would be better.
Are images still good when you step down to 16 or 20 mps?
Toby, I think you are the one that are not ready to shoot weddings lol.
lol how much the canon pay you for this ? just guys gey ovwer the fucking batterys buy 3 exstra ok ore grip ore battery external charger ! where its the the problem really ?
