Great video Chelsea. I’m at that stage now where I’m teetering on the edge of switching from my dual D750’s for wedding shoots.
I may even keep one D750 and trade in the other against the Z6II and the lens adaptor.
How do you find switching between your DSLR and the Mirrorless on busy wedding shoots? I’m so used to having both cameras set up exactly the same so I can swap seamlessly.
I’m not sure if that fake EVF is advantage. Output is not a different from DSLRs or mirrorless. I don’t see any reason to switch to mirrorless system. I do believe the mirrorless is a sad future of photography.
Great video, I'm glad you're posting more. Regarding fast glass for Nikon, I urge you to try the 1.8s–you might just become a convert and stop missing f/1.4 glass. The 1.8s are smaller, lighter, and much less expensive than their 1.4 counterparts, and they really don't give up so much in terms of bokeh that I would trade my beloved 1.8s for them.
You're going to find that trading in your FTZ adapter and DSLR lenses will result in a sharper, happier life. I tested my 1.8 G lens against the 1.8 Z and found the latter to be sharper, and the focusing was faster and more accurate (no more hunting!).
Lastly, I still think your videos would be better if you banged out a tune on that silent, lonely guitar in the background! 🙂
I think mirrorless is neat, especially previewing the effect of the exposure settings. It’s hard to think about changing as I have many D lenses. I share your love of the 85mm f/1.4 D. I used it recently for shots of my newest great nephew and the photos just plain reach out and grab you.
This is a great review of the options and perspective on the pros and cons. I finallllly switched to mirrorless after 10 years with Nikon DSLR. I'm now rocking the medium format Fujifilm GFX 100s and it's a silent beast! I love the clarity, ease, and functionality. I still feel 'professional' with it and it's almost like shooting film with the slower capture time. More intentional shots and less camera shake. I think the industry is definitely leaning more mirrorless lately and would be a good transition if you're starting or intending to switch bodies. Now I just need to save up for a 2nd body 😛
Hi Chelsea! I love my mirrorless Nikon!! I am a little sad about the lenses also but with the sigma art lenses, do they require using the lens adapter on the Nikon Mirrorless?
Often, people think whatever they have is the better choice, since — after all — that's what they chose. I first got a Sony mirrorless camera in early 2015 and for a while, shot with both it and my Canon DSLR before gradually selling off my Canon gear as I transitioned to native Sony glass from adapted Canon lenses. I'm now on my fifth Sony body, an A7R IV. I think it's great that Canon finally has got some killer mirrorless equipment out, and with Nikon trying very hard to remain competitive as well. But I think, if it had not been for Sony owners pushing for updates — and Sony actually listening and responding to their requests, we'd all still be shooting with DSLR's and missing out on all the benefits that mirrorless has. And I'm sorry but no, shooting with your Canon in Live View is not the same as shooting mirrorless 🙂
Currently shooting with my Z6 ii, an upgrade from my D610 and I absolutely love it. One of my main gripes is the battery life on it. I ended up buying an extra one for a backup. I would recommend buying one or a battery grip. You could just make sure your battery is charged as well before going to take them
I don't go in for all the hypes that come along, I take my time, research and use the wisdom I get. I have a Canon 6D MKII and Live View gives me all I need to set up and shoot if I want mirrorless, Live View is what I call, the Mirrorless Mode of a dslr. It will be a very long time before I go into the hype of the mirrorless, I just don't need it and see no benefit. I don't know what Nikon has but Live View in Canon is all mirrorless built in to almost all Canon dslrs.
Oooooo! Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for tips on this especially since my camera is super old! I want something that does really great video but mostly excellent for low light / night shots! Anyone have tips on those specifically? Curious on other users thoughts!
I'd love to know how Nikon DSLR users who went to Sony Mirrorless with Nikon Lens adapter worked out. Camera alone, I'd go to Sony, but I do love my Nikon Lenses. So.. if Sony Alpha + F mount Adapter works well, I'd consider that. (any recommendations are welcome)
I will say this, having the Sigma Art 135mm 1.8? Mind blowing. SUCH an intimate lens. I love it, and I often use it exclusively. (As a challenge at times).
QOTD: Who do you think the winner is… Mirrorless or DSLR?! 📸 Share below!
Nikon D780 vs Nikon z6ii which is better than buying wedding shoot in villages
Let say you start to be a professional photographer today, which mirrorless camera would you buy and why?

Thank you! I’ve been on the fence about the Z6ii. Your honesty is very appreciated. Currently shooting with my D750.

Do you find the lowlight AF as good on the Z cameras.
2.12 not if you use flash. I use flash a lot at weddings

Pumped you’re back 🤟🏼
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Good thing I watch your video before buying and switching to a mirrorless camera.

Great explanation of the differences between the cameras and the benefits and pitfalls of the mirrorless. Another fab video Chelsea!

Low light across the table shots? Check. Amazing.
