The good Lord is going to throw a priceless wedding reception for you John Piper 😉 with wine overflowing, lavish overwhelming gifts and beauty beyond compare.
$3K for a diamond ring?! I think my husband did a third of that and got a beautiful 0.3 carot diamond ring. The spirit of this question makes me think the asker may not be ready for marriage, though.
I agree and disagree with Piper on wedding receptions. Firstly, one should never spend money they don't have. The budget drives what is possible. However, there are ways to do meals that are MUCH cheaper than $10/15/20K. In this day and age, many couples have family members that travel hundreds or thousands of miles for the wedding, meaning a meal for guests is an obligation. A wedding represents a significant event, and it is right and appropriate to celebrate with feasting.
I'm excited to be married to my future husband, the one God has so wonderfully prepared for me. My boyfriend & I talk about rings & marriage & at the end of the day we know what's most important, a covenant with our most faithful & loving God. We desire that our marriage & life would ultimately be a testimony for the glory of God…that our friends & family would see who God is as we walk forward in life as two becoming one. Our eyes are set on Jesus & a big or small diamond ring cannot compare to His most precious gift to us. I'm not opposed to engagement rings (nor the price of it) – it expresses that we are betrothed to the one we love as Pastor John explained. However, if our only focus as women is an engagement ring, we must realign our hearts & intentions & set our eyes on our Lord Jesus first.
Personally I don't think the woman even needs to know how much the man spends on the ring. If the monetary value of the ring is going to change her outlook on the relationship then the 2 of you shouldn't be getting married in the first place.

A wedding and marriage vows in general are a waste if time, energy and money especially these days.
You shouldn't wear a ring if you aren't engaged or married. It is disrespectful to the Sacrament of Marriage.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047094/ Maggie Hobson had an idea on getting a ring without wasting money.

such a sweet answer!
What about a tattoo'd on ring? My work means I can't wear a ring for safety reasons. I'm not married yet but I've thought about that.
Praise God, this was an amazing response.
